The Allods Team Addresses the Fear of Death Mechanic

The Allods team have responded to the recent outcry regarding the Fear of Death mechanic.  Whilst not saying if it’ll be removed, changed or whatever other magical thing they could do with it, they did reassure us all that they listen to all of our constructive feedback regarding things such as this.

Hi Everyone!

Thank you for all of the feedback you’ve provided regarding the Fear of Death game mechanic. We wanted to let you all know that the team has been actively reading every forum post, tweet, and e-mail that’s been coming in, and it’s amazing to know that the players are very passionate about Allods Online.

We work directly with Astrum Nival (the developer) multiple times a day in spite of the timezone difference between Russia and the United States. One of our major topics of conversation is discussing player suggestions and feedback which make sense for Allods. So, for those of you who take the time to write a well thought out feature suggestion or feedback regarding new features, thank you. We really appreciate the effort you make to share your thoughts on Allods.

The Fear of Death game mechanic appears to be an issue with the mechanic itself, as well as how the mechanic ties into the cash shop. On that note, as a subscriptionless game, there are several points that we are mindful of when dealing with our cash shop:

1. To introduce items which make the Allods experience more enjoyable and fun

2. To introduce items that complement/assist existing game mechanics

3. To introduce items that do not allow players to automatically create winning characters

4. To give all players, even those that don’t spend a single cent in the game, the opportunity play on the same level as those that pay-to-play

As a subscription-less game, we expect to make money in the cash shop. We also care deeply about the integrity of the game and how specific game mechanics will affect the use of the cash shop. When we decide to introduce a game mechanic like Fear of Death, we don’t expect all of our users to be in agreement, but we do hope that the detractors will stay open-minded, patient, and show some faith with the game design decisions that Astrum Nival makes. It’s important for us to let our players know that Astrum Nival does extensive research and tests when determining how to integrate new game mechanics—especially those which tie directly into the cash shop.

Managing the cash shop is a difficult balancing act between generating revenue, maintaining the integrity of the game, and promoting a fair playing field for all players. This is why it’s important for us to hear your constructive feedback on how you feel about the game. Please be mindful of the language you use, as insults and other incendiary language will not result in a positive response.

Again, thank you for your feedback. Let’s work together towards promoting a positive and constructive forum community. If you have any additional suggestions, please send them to:

Lots of lie around FOD – like “Nival think what they do”. It’s not about game-daveloper Nival – after became owner of the Astrum-Nival group we got lots of bug’s, FoD and zone chat for cash. Finally about 20-40% quit. Last time i have been online (In Russia) – most 40 is offline. Not only FoD – but because of absent high-level content. Before was instances and lots of PVP-fun … but after FoD PVP became available for cash-bags only. And them when developer says that game will free – and in fact it is “no pay no game” its just lie, and that(lie) is disgusting.

I am confident that they will figure out a way to make it work in a balanced way.

Interesting, if they will still implement FoD without changing it, they still want to make an illusion that players can do something about it. While saying that they will listen to to the feedback they didn’t say anything about changing it whatsoever, instead, they said that it won’t be changed! Very nice indeed! This is actually what I hate: making people believe in something that won’t be, so basically lying, well, lying wouldn’t fit here, evading the truth. Still a great game!

As I cannot correct my post, I’ll just add => better say truth: this will happen and end of discussion, except of this will happen and here you can post all your frustrations, in case it will help you. But it is my opinion, don’t bother if you don’t like it. )

sorry, a mistake: not except, but instead!

    • There is a chance that it’ll likely be greatly reduced for the Western servers.

I was fairly sure they were going to go in this direction, but it is good to know they have publicly acknowledged the outcry on the forums. I’m fairly neutral in regards to the FoD mechanic, as it is a way for them to repeatedly make some money off of the CS.

I just hope new users are not swayed by the forums because it may look like a lot of people are vocally against the feeture. In truth though, it is just a very outspoken group, and not the entire community.
