The Lorebook episode 1: Know your lore.

Welcome ladies and gentleman to the new column I like to call: The Lorebook.

The lorebook will be a weekly column in which I, Dethg D will examine an interesting quest line and talk about the lore of it and how it affects the lore of the Allods.

But before we start that. Lets know our lore!

What is the Astral? What’s an Allod? Who are the Conclave of Great Mages?

Those are some of the topics we will be talking about before we  start looking at quests and its lore effects.

So lets get started then…

The Astral and Sarnaut…

The Astral is a dynamic living substance or simply a space. The Astral, like any living creature has the ability to move where ever it can go.

The Astral is the universe in which Allods takes place.

It all starts out in a planet residing within the Astral called Sarnaut. Sarnaut, the source of life within the Astral was once a quiet and peaceful planet, where humans and other races lived a casual and productive life. The population was emancipated and thriving, fighting for larger territories, establishing new countries and living off an economy based on agriculture, crafting and commerce.

Due to the Destructive nature of The Astral, Sarnaut was shattered into many different islands in an event called The Great Cataclysm. These islands, named Allods by their inhabitants had very little connection to one another after the shattering. Only a handful of powerfull mages possess the power to teleport through the Astral from one Allod to another.

The Conclave of Great Mages and the formation of The Empire and The League…

The Conclave of the Great Mages was established ages ago after the fall of the Junes kingdom. Back then, the Conclave comprised of forty mages, seven of which were members of the Council. The Council led and managed the Conclave. The Council was made of the wisest of most ancient mages while any mage could take the test to be part of the Conclave. The examination was dangerous and required excellent magical skills. If successfully completed, a mage would become a member of the Conclave and have access to unpublished materials, free access to other mages knowledge and protection from other mages. As a member of the Conclave, one had to duly respect and obey the Rules of the Conclave.

In the Third millennium of the Old Era, the head of the Council was Great Mage Skrakan. He educated two mages who became his best pupils: Tensess and Nezeb.

Five hundred years after the first confrontation between the Kanians – led by Tensess, and the Xadaganians – led by Nezeb, Skrakan managed to re-establish units in the Conclave of the Great Mages. Tensess and Nezeb were brought to heel under the control of Skrakan.

Over a hundred years after the Great Cataclysm, the Council of the Great Mages was working fine. However, dysfunctions were emerging and the confrontation between Tensess and Nezeb led the Council to split into two parts: the Kanians, led by Tensess and the Xadaganians, led by Nezeb. In spite of Skrakan’s efforts to hold the Council together, in the year of 356 the Conclave of the Great Mages was doomed to vanish. Afterwards, Mages of Kania and Mages of Xadagan could only communicate under the control of Skrakan.

The conflict between the two Great Mages, Tensess and Nezeb, led to several wars as their two countries grew bigger and stronger, leaving other powers no choice but to get involved.

In the beginning of the VIII century of the New Era, two opposing factions were formed: the League and the Empire.

The Astral travel era…

This era started with the discovery of a magical stone found by a gibberling fishrman named Swen.

The magic stone possesses the power to shield the barer from the destructive forces of the Astral.

This discovery allowed the shattered remains of Sarnaut to begin a new era with unrestricted Astral travel between the allods, giving ships protection against the dangerous forces that would otherwise consume them. This discovery enabled a new age of conquest and discovery as transportation through the Astral was made available to everyone. However, this also led to a new era of Endless War as factions fought for control of this newly liberated space.

Stay tuned for The Astral Demons.
