WHAT DO RUNES DO?

Combat runes can increase the damage you inflict upon your enemies. They’re found in weapons and shoulder armor.

Protection runes can decrease the damage you take. They’re found in helmets, armor and pants.

HOW DO I OBTAIN RUNES?

Runes can be removed from armor and weapons pieces generally pants, weapons, helmets, shoulders and chests (not including the shirt). Runes can also be traded by players or bought from the Auction house, or rarely in a Resale tab at a vendor.

HOW DO I REMOVE RUNES FROM ITEMS?

Firstly find the armor you want to remove a rune from. Your item needs to be in your bag, before you remove it (you cannot remove it while it is equipped). For example this screenshot has an weapon called Ice Shooter highlighted and it has a tin rune:

Now, right click on the tool called ‘Rune Remover’ and left click on the item you want to remove the rune from. Here’s the same exact item after I removed the tin rune:

The tin rune was a level 1 Rune of Stagan:

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS OF REMOVING A RUNE?

Each time a rune is removed from an item it becomes slightly weaker. There is a small chance it’ll eventually break to no longer be usable. Be very careful when removing or replacing runes.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I PUT A RUNE IN AN ITEM THAT ALREADY HAS A RUNE?

The old rune get swapped out and the new one gets placed in. However, it is still subjected to the side effects. You do not need a tool to do this.

HOW DO I PUT A RUNE IN AN ITEM?

This part is easier! Firstly right click on the rune you want to put in a item. Then left click on the item you want the rune in. And that’s it! Its really that simple. However, both, the rune and the item must be in your bag, or it won’t work.

HOW DO I COMBINE/MERGE TWO RUNES?

You can only combine multiple runes of the same type and level. So for example you CANNOT combine a level 4 Rune of Ulf  and a level 2 Rune of Ferr. But you CAN combine a level 4 Rune of Ulf with a level 4 Rune of Ulf (as far as we know). Here in this screenshot Increase quantity of crystals and gold dust increase the level of the runes: I have 2 Runes of Plam, both are level 1:

I want to combine these two runes so I’d right click on my ‘Rune Welder’.

And then I’d left click on the stack of the runes I want to merge. A Combine Runes slider will come up on your screen. You can increase the quality any way, via crystals or via gold dust. However far the slider goes in either direction costs more of one material over the other. By default the slider will be balanced in the middle. You’d need to adjust the slider to the cost you want to pay.

Press the button ‘Unite’ to combine the runes. And you’d get a more powerful rune:

WHAT LEVEL RUNE DO I NEED TO BENEFIT FROM IT?

Level two.

WHEN DO I GET TO USE RUNES?

Level fifteen quests unlock it.

I DON’T LIKE MY MARTYR, CAN I CHANGE IT, OR CHOOSE MY MARTYR?

No. The Martyr is automatically assigned to you. You won’t know who you’d get until you do the quest. The Martyr is your rune symbol/type. See the reference table of runes for more information.

WHERE DO I GET THIS RUNE REMOVER, RUNE WELDER, GOLD FLAKES/DUST AT?
HOW DO I GET MORE GOLD DUST?

“But you CAN combine a level 4 Rune of Ulf with a level 2 Rune of Ulf; this would create a level 6 Rune of Ulf.”

No you can’t. Both runes have to be the same level. I tried with level 2 Rune of Lex and level 1 Rune of Lex.
