Interview with Game Master Ruatolov of Allods Online EU!

A bit ago I asked for an interview from Ruatolov, I’ve been saving the interview for the right date to release. I got a lot of questions asking about the game, but I pruned them, because it was meant to be a personal interview. He agreed to an interview and also gave me five hundred EU keys.

Now, without further ado, I present to you Ruatolov of the EU Gala-Net team!

What exactly is your job for gPotato?
My job is Community Manager for Allods Online Europe at the portal.

What is the most enjoyable part of your job?
Seeing the same names everyday playing while watching the newcomers enjoying the game for the first time! There’s a great sense of community in Europe for Allods Online. I’m also a fan of listening to the fun conversations that take place in zone chat. They talk about some crazy things!

Are you liking the fan following behind Allods Online so far?
The response from Europe for Allods Online has been really enthusiastic. Our players stretch right across the continent from Ireland to the edges of Eastern Europe and from the tip of Scandinavia to the very south of the Mediterranean. It’s really inspiring to be a part of a game with such a great fan base. The artwork submitted on our Guild Portal ( has been really creative too!

Why did you start working with this game?
I wanted to work on Allods Online because it offered me something I couldn’t find in other MMOs: A game where I can play whenever I want, and not worry about whether I’m getting my money’s worth. Being a member of the team that will spear-head a revolutionary change of the MMO genre is something not many experience. Pay to play is so last decade. 2010 and beyond belongs to the subscriptionless MMO, and Allods Online is leading the charge. Thank you!

Do you have any pets?
Ruatolov doesn’t look after animals. Ruatolov eats animals…for dinner.

In game, what is your favorite class so far?
Oh I don’t have a favourite. I tend to create a few different classes and just go with what feels good at the time. There’s plenty of choice in Allods Online so it’s tough for me to pick just one favourite class.

Do you have a preference for PvE or PvP?
Depends on my mood, if I’m feeling some stress and want to “let it out”, I do PvP. When plan on playing for a few short hours, I’ll just relax with some PvE. Allods Online has plenty of options in terms of play style, so it’s easy to switch from feature to feature.

What feature of Allods Online do you enjoy the most?
Astral Ships! I was born to be a Helmsman. Going through the Astral is a mysterious and exciting adventure. I still have to learn a few better strategies to successfully to take down Astral demons though.

What is your all time favorite game that is not an mmorpg?
Not an MMO? Hmm. Probably Jet Set Radio on the Dreamcast. I also love some Street Fighter action. I’m so retro.

If you could go one place in the world for a week vacation, where would you go?
Well I’ve been to Japan before which was great, so maybe a different part of Japan this time.

If you could have a non combat pet in game, what would you like your pet to be?
I’d have an Astral-whale. Everyone would call him “Moby Dick of the Astral”.

What is the meaning behind your name?
If I told you, your mind may explode from sheer amazement.

Now, if I don’t ask this my readers will kill me. Any juicy gossip you’d like to share?
If your a fan of World Cup soccer, keep an eye out on our official site
It’s going to be a fun summer!

Japan Gets Allods Online License

GameOn secured the Allods Online license for Japan!

Here’s an excerpt:

Moscow, Russia & Tokyo, Japan — February 09, 2010 — Mail.Ru Inc. is pleased to announce that GameOn Co., Ltd. will publish the award-winning Allods Online, developed by Astrum Nival game studio, for Japanese community, where GameOn is a leading online game operator with several years of experience and a diverse portfolio of popular free to play offerings. The companies are cooperating closely to establish a timeline for localization into Japanese, beta testing and launch.

Allods Online title is the Russian game development industry’s project from Astrum Nival game development studio, owned by Mail.Ru Inc. Allods Online brings MMO fans across the world into a universe of epic fantasy and fierce conflict with a deep and captivating storyline. Allods Online takes place after the destruction of the planet of Sarnaut and the subsequent formation of the Allods, these mystical islands float in the Astral, an expansive living substance that makes up the compelling game world. Adventurers will explore the numerous Allods as they battle against a wide range of enemies – and each other.

Some other notable elements are a crafting system based on mini-games, a vast array of over 1500 quests, many of which help advance the deep storyline by revealing the history and secrets of the universe, eight archetypes, 28 classes, six races and two factions. Characters are free to explore perilous areas, socialize in guilds, earn money by crafting, participate in massive PvP battles, and will feature classic fantasy MMORPG gameplay that fans of the genre’s most successful titles can enjoy. It features extensive questing, intense player-versus-player combat, grand exploration, in-depth character development and plenty of social interaction. In the Astral, players will have the chance to put their wits and brawn to the test in Astral battles, the game’s giant fights between competing Astral ships manned by multiple players.

With over 12 million USD in funding, Allods Online is the best-funded Russian game development project in history. In addition, Allods Online was acknowledged as the Best Game 2009 and Best Online Game 2008 by Russian Game Development Conference (KRI), where it also received the Audience Choice Award 2008.

The source is no other then Astrum Nival themselves.

Bright’s Alchemy Guide

With the last days of Closed beta counting down I decided to play with a craft, here is what I have learned about crafting.

Like any other profession you will spend 38 Silver on the instruction manual and learn your only profession for the time being. You will also need to purchase a shoddy flask which will take an inventory slot and act as you access to your skill.

Upon speaking to the alchemist again he will give you a quest to bring him 10 Stain Removers. You will also be given 40 basic solvents to use as ingredients. These will be found on the Reagents tab of your bag.

***BIG HINT***
You will not need to use all 40 basic solvents to make the 10 Stain Removers but you should keep crafting until you have used all 40. The quest give will take back any extras you have and afterwards you will pay 9 silvers for each one.

As you can see the basic solvent has 2 properties 2 Blinding Agents and 2 Unknown. When you open your Alchemist window you will see two flasks for boiling ingredients.

You will place 2 of your herbs (which will need to be bought/traded) from an herbalist or the auction house until you can learn your second profession. Into the flask and click on boil.

The aspects will rotate like a slot machine and stop. If you match a recipe (which I’ll cover a little later) you will have a potion ready to be bottled, if not you will have the bottle of death show.

You are permitted to make a minor correction (levels 1-50 only 1) to the results to steer them to a usable potion.

You can click on the recipes tab at the bottom of your alchemy window to access the list of potions you know. Through experimentation I discovered that unless you know the recipe you can not accidently create a potion or make it, you just get the bottle of death.

And here is what the potions do.

Buff lasts for 30 seconds but man do you fly.

Any skill increasing potion does cancel out any other one in effect, making so that you can only have one 30 min stat buff active at one time.

Again a 30 sec buff but having a constant 34 damage reduction can make a big difference in lower level PvP and Boss fights.

I never did make a Divine resistance potion but assume (I know shame on me) that it would match nature’s resistance except vs divine. Might be useful against all those PvP paladins…..uh well maybe there’s a hold boss monster out there somewhere.

Guild Tags in Game!

In Russia’s v6 they introduced guild tags! Yup! the long wanted feature of Allods Online guild tags! ^^ They’re finally here. Guilds have been asking for this ever since, well, there has been a guild formed in Allods Online.

Mastrgamr has been spending some time on the Russian open beta and provided some screenshots for me. I cropped them and here they are:

So, are you guys glad that this is finally coming out? :].
