Bright’s Alchemy Guide

With the last days of Closed beta counting down I decided to play with a craft, here is what I have learned about crafting.

Like any other profession you will spend 38 Silver on the instruction manual and learn your only profession for the time being. You will also need to purchase a shoddy flask which will take an inventory slot and act as you access to your skill.

Upon speaking to the alchemist again he will give you a quest to bring him 10 Stain Removers. You will also be given 40 basic solvents to use as ingredients. These will be found on the Reagents tab of your bag.

***BIG HINT***
You will not need to use all 40 basic solvents to make the 10 Stain Removers but you should keep crafting until you have used all 40. The quest give will take back any extras you have and afterwards you will pay 9 silvers for each one.

As you can see the basic solvent has 2 properties 2 Blinding Agents and 2 Unknown. When you open your Alchemist window you will see two flasks for boiling ingredients.

You will place 2 of your herbs (which will need to be bought/traded) from an herbalist or the auction house until you can learn your second profession. Into the flask and click on boil.

The aspects will rotate like a slot machine and stop. If you match a recipe (which I’ll cover a little later) you will have a potion ready to be bottled, if not you will have the bottle of death show.

You are permitted to make a minor correction (levels 1-50 only 1) to the results to steer them to a usable potion.

Recipes

You can click on the recipes tab at the bottom of your alchemy window to access the list of potions you know. Through experimentation I discovered that unless you know the recipe you can not accidently create a potion or make it, you just get the bottle of death.

And here is what the potions do.

Buff lasts for 30 seconds but man do you fly.

Any skill increasing potion does cancel out any other one in effect, making so that you can only have one 30 min stat buff active at one time.

Again a 30 sec buff but having a constant 34 damage reduction can make a big difference in lower level PvP and Boss fights.

I never did make a Divine resistance potion but assume (I know shame on me) that it would match nature’s resistance except vs divine. Might be useful against all those PvP paladins…..uh well maybe there’s a hold boss monster out there somewhere.

Guild Tags in Game!

In Russia’s v6 they introduced guild tags! Yup! the long wanted feature of Allods Online guild tags! ^^ They’re finally here. Guilds have been asking for this ever since, well, there has been a guild formed in Allods Online.

Mastrgamr has been spending some time on the Russian open beta and provided some screenshots for me. I cropped them and here they are:

So, are you guys glad that this is finally coming out? :].

A First Look at the Allods Online Official Wiki!

I am going to be spending a lot of time in open beta leveling very slowly. Why so? Because I will be helping fill up the official wiki with content. There are several things that need to be done, and that we have in mind for the wiki! Trust me, even though I won’t be in the first thousand to forty, I will be working on a wiki full of npc, mob, items and quest information directly in game!

I have decided to let you guys get a sneak peek at two of our pages so far. The first quest a League player encounters and the first npc encountered. The template is not finalized, nor is the content. I’m still working on the parser code for the info box templates can be very easily managed.

I have a background in wikis. I am an administrator at the world’s largest wiki, AboutUs. :]. I have made over forty thousand edits at the largest wiki, and several tens of thousands across other wikis. Wikis are fun to me, and they are one of the few things, that I’m actually good at. Many consider me an expert in wikis, because of my background and experience. I am generally more known with commercial wikis, not with nonprofits.

It took me over fifteen hours to get the first pages done, and a good few hours in game to do these. I am dedicating a large portion of my time to this. I am very well aware of the grammar errors that exist, and I’ll be fixing them soon. I am personally in game manually writing, double checking my writing, and checking out every little detail.

Here are two screenshots of two pages done on the wiki so far:

Feedback is very much welcomed, as it can morph how the official wiki is formed. :]. A positive thing about spending massive amounts of time working on the wiki, is that the lore will burn itself into my mind. I will easily be spending forty to sixty hours a week working on this.

Update: Due to some feedback from a friend, and testing while asking a few people on my MSN list, I have changed the look of the quest template. Take a look at the new version:

Guild of the Fortnight!

I am proud to introduce a guild column will be starting up with the arrival of open beta. Every fortnight we will feature a guild, just because they’re an awesome guild. We will also try to get an interview with the players done as well, when we feature it up here.

For guilds this is a good chance to:
-) Advertise.
-) Show the community who your guild is.
-) Make an image for your guild.
-) Be famous! 😉
-) Phat loots and hot…okay not really, but you do get bragging rights. :X

You’ll be able to show the readers of The Novograd Times your guild, and things about your guild. Would you like to be in our first Guild of the Fortnight? If so please comment with the name of your guild! :]. We’ll hunt you down. :]. That’s all we want. Your guild name.

You do not have to be a guild officer or leader to nominate! 😀

Machinima Winner – archonmerc!

Remember the machinima contest that Allods Online NA had? Well the winner was announced, and it was a damn good video. The winner was archonmerc. Check out the video:

We happened to get an interview. 😀

The winning video was the recruitment advertisement for Bloodpact. Can you tell us a little bit about Bloodpact?
Once I start, I could go on forever! I’ll just say that we are a mature bunch, we really don’t care for drama. Although we are a hardcore guild, my philosophy is that you don’t have to be a jerk to be a badass. (Can I say that?)

As for our history, we started in Corum Online (gPotato land!) over five years ago, and since then played 2moons before we came here. The core members and leaders are like a family, and instead of making cliques in such a huge group, we include everyone! We are lucky to have many members from the EU, Australia and Asia too, keeping it active 24/7!

As for me, Bloodpact is on my mind all day long, that might not be healthy, but it’s surely good for the guild.

Now how about a little bit about yourself?
My name is Thomas, I am a 23 year old journalist and photographer from Norway. I play on the North American servers (and have brought friends!) because of the language barrier and clique nation/region-centric guilds in the EU.

I just got out of the Royal Norwegian Air Force a little over a month ago where I completed my one year draft. I had actually signed up for news about Allods months in advance, and was bummed the closed beta testing started before I could complete my service. It hasn’t hurt me though, and I’m glad I could manage to ‘scramble’ Bloodpact on such short notice with a lot of help from my sidekicks Arteigon and Aewa.

What was the inspiration of the video?
Actually, Allods is inspiration enough! It was everything I hoped it to be and more. I always like to make videos for guilds, but now my interest was piqued with the fantastic foundation for getting majestic shots in Allods Online.

It was actually never my intention to enter the contest, just because it was a guild advertisement. A guildmate, Kemwer, pushed me into it though! Haha.

How long did it take you to make this video?
Not long enough… When I say that, I mean I love the process of making it as much as seeing the finished product. But I’m sure I lost a few potential levels on my characters to say the least due to being wrapped up in video making. Better time spent now than in open beta, am I right? Overall, I think I spent upwards of 10 hours and 200GB of hard drive space on recording it, and 40-50 hours on the editing.

It’s OK though, the sun never comes up in Northern Norway during the winter anyway, so I’m not missing anything!

I’m constantly adding new Allods videos to my YouTube profile, and have already made 3 of them since the contest entry, so I guess I’m an avid advertiser for the game and Bloodpact.

Did the video come out the way you invisioned it?
Truth be told, yes. Funny enough! Although I made the mistake of not uploading it in high definition, in this case for me it just adds some more character. And the movie itself, I am quite content with just because I found the right music, and patched the shots together just how I planned when recording them.

Who did the voice over?
Actually, I’m wondering that myself. I found the line on a CC sample sharing site, and when I asked for who to credit I just got back a generic answer. It does however fit quite well!

Did any others help you with the video?
Yes! First off, Kemwer, the Brazilian stallion, got the shots from the end of CBT#3 dance of the old square, and made our new logo as well. So much credit goes to him here. Also, the entire Bloodpact guild of course! At that time we only had around fifty members, but there were no problems getting suggestions and critiques, or people to come to the “set”. And of course, Astrum Nival who’s amazing art direction makes such beautiful scenery possible – and gPotato for giving this magnificent game to us through the intertubes.

Anything you’d like to say to The Novograd Times readers?
Support Allods, and respect your fellow players =)

It’s a monster high quality game made with love and care and detail. Might be sounding like a fanboy here, and maybe I am, but I just urge people to stay with it and keep it up! The community over all is pretty nice, and I don’t want that to change ever. You guys rock!

Once again congratulations to archonmerc. Enjoy your Razer Megalodon Headset!

Chests and Runes = Random

A lot of the community hates the changes made in chests. Dejan also known as Daex tested a bunch of chests with runes and handed his results over to me, with a beautiful spreadsheet. I have tested several chests with runes myself and feel they were random.

Daex also tested this with Exotic Chests. Here are the results that Daex came up with:

There was nothing in the patch notes about this, and this change had put a cramped style in how a lot of us earn gold by collecting chests and putting runes in to get money. Several people, including myself put runes in chests to effect the kind of gear that we were looking for. Like if you need a new weapon, you can rune it to be a weapon or even a leather piece.

There is a good chance this could be a bug.

What are your thoughts on this? Can you spot a pattern? We sure can’t!

Item Shop Outfits are Cute.

I had a chance to play with the bells and whistles of the item shop. Fireworks were a lot of fun and had amazing graphics when exploding. There were even snowman heads for sell! You couldn’t forget about the cute outfits or the several chests. A lot of fun being able to play with the item shop. I probably blew through over a hundred bucks worth of item shop stuff trying to test it out. Maybe more.
